Felipe Romero Beltrán

Born in Colombia in 1992 and currently based in Paris, Felipe Romero Beltrán’s long-term photographic projects address various aspects of the broader theme of migration and its settings. Taking a critical and empathetic perspective, Beltrán examines social, cultural, and political issues and problems, shedding light on their causes and effects and on the realities of his protagonists. In the process, he works with a variety of documentary strategies in film and installation and conducts intensive research to allow those affected to have their say. The tensions inherent in his works reflect the social conditions (and grievances) he often observes along the Mexican-American and Moroccan-Spanish borders, which are linked to very real social phenomena such as cohesion and family, as well as alienation, homesickness, social inequality, and political injustice.
